In 1983, Ponte Vedra had just one public school when local resident Michael Hannon recruited 10 key community leaders to support a new initiative in the community — The Ponte Vedra Public Education Foundation. The foundation embraced enhancing the public education experience in Pone Vedra.
Since that time, the foundation has raised more than $1 million to enhance and enrich the educational experience of Ponte Vedra’s public school students. Over the years, PVPEF has provided thousands of dollars in grants to local teachers to support special augmented classroom projects, programs and equipment. We’ve funded and coordinated the presentation of numerous arts and cultural performances and activities. And we’ve beautified our school facilities through the donation of works of art.
Thanks in part to the efforts of the Ponte Vedra Public Education Foundation, the educational landscape of our community has changed dramatically since 1983. Ponte Vedra has grown from one public school to six – all of which hold the state’s top “A” grade for educational quality – and the St. Johns County School District is ranked first in the state of Florida.
But much remains to be done. Now more than ever, the Ponte Vedra Public Education Foundation remains dedicated to maintaining and building upon the gains our community has made in providing our children with the best education possible. We invite you to join us in this most worthwhile mission.
